Phonics is a proven way of making kids confident and early readers. Most of the kindergartens/ Montessori / Pre-schools in Malaysia follow this approach for introducing letter sounds, phonics to children. All phonics mats are in lowercase letters as this is the most used form of letters children see around them and in books that we as adults read to them. It becomes relatable for children and makes the journey really easy.

Phonics Learning Mats have been designed for Lil learners who are just starting out with letter sounds, recognising letters, and phonics. The mats have been made to be visually appealing to younger children and engage them in a fun educational activity! You can start introducing letter sounds to children by the age of 3.

All Letters may not be introduced at once for first timers, try to go over the sounds one day at a time.

All Juggle Brain Learning Mats are reusable, come with a dry erase marker and is perfect for children to explore and learn letters in a fun way.

Bundle this up with their corresponding I-spy Mats  (Mat 1 with Mat 1 etc.) for more words to identify beginning letter sounds and  Sound of the day mat to practice reading and writing.

All Juggle Brain Learning Mats can be put in an A4 size pocket folder to make it a collection and reference back /revise with kids whenever needed.

HOW TO USE / ACTIVITY IDEAS

  • Take off all tokens off the board, and trace the letter while sounding it out. Keep saying the sounds as you go.
  • Let the child identify the picture and the beginning sound that he/she can hear. Making them aware of the sound that they hear first. Segment the word so they become aware of each sound.
  • Match the tokens with the sounds
  • Try independently
  • Try thinking of other words for the different sounds, perhaps focusing on one at a time, our I- Spy mats will help for this.
